Skanzen Finsterau
Folk open-air museum with farmhouses and farmhouses. History under the open sky...
Inside and outside, every day of the year, for everyone!
The Finsterau Open Air Museum is an agricultural tourist museum open in all weathers all year round. Not far from the Czech border, 935 metres above sea level, behind the forests and mountains of the Bavarian Forest National Park, peasant culture has found its protector: the Finsterau Open Air Museum.
Original farmhouses and farmhouses from all over the Bavarian Forest dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries have been relocated here. For example, there is a forge, a chapel and an inn. Inside, you can see the equipment and tools that people used to work with.
In the open air, you can enjoy the atmosphere of a long-gone era. In the meadows between the buildings you can watch cows, sheep and donkeys, and enjoy the fragrant flowers and herbs in the gardens. When it rains, a beautiful gazebo and an indoor playground provide shelter in the garden.
The Finsterau open-air museum is really alive! During regular events for visitors, craftsmen demonstrate their skills, markets and musical performances take place, bread is baked in the original oven... Special exhibitions provide education and entertainment. The restaurant and café "Heimat" offers a gastronomic experience.
