Shumava on snowshoes
The Administration of the Protected Landscape Area and the Šumava National Park offers visitors snowshoeing during the winter season (from January to March). You can choose routes around Kvilda, Stožka, Svinné Lad and Kašperské Hory. Information centers organize trips of this kind every two weeks.
Excursion routes are a maximum of five kilometers long and are not difficult at all. The trip route changes according to the performance composition of the group as well as snow conditions. If you do not have your own snowshoes, you can borrow them at the information centers of the Šumava National Park Administration. However, snowshoes are only rented for a joint trip. They have 13 pairs of snowshoes available at Kvilda, up to thirty at the remaining resorts. During the trip on snowshoes, you will learn from the guide information about interesting places and Šumava nature, the history of the given location, and identifying animal tracks is also a popular topic.
Due to the limited number of snowshoes, the trip must be booked in advance. You can find detailed information about the dates of trips on the website of NP Šumava or in the information centers in Kvilda, Stožec, Svinné Ladá and Kašperské Hory. Snowshoe trips are organized about once every two weeks, in some ICs it is possible to plan a trip at any time.
